What are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow
the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen, they
naturally produce free radicals (by-products)
which can cause damage. Antioxidants act as hunter seekers of free radicals and
destroy or inhibit them. Hence,
preventing and repairing damage done by these free radicals.
Many health problems such as cancer,
diabetes, heart disease, macular degeneration, etc are all contributed to by
oxidative damage.
You may see that antioxidants are promoted
quite often in different media; tv, radio, magazine ads, etc. Foods rich in antioxidants are very sought
after.
One of the main reasons alkaline ionized water is so critical
to health these days, is that it contains high levels of antioxidants that hunt
down the “bad” stuff in your system, and help restore health, or may help
prevent further damage by free radicals.
